This award is very much based on the fact that it is the first time we have been recognised in the same category,” said Kathy Dickson, executive chef at Le Rond, a French gêne with a gourmet lunch menu.
Dickson said the restaurant won’t be serving its own food.
The chef said she plans to use the award money for other projects.
“It is a great honour to have this recognition,” she said.
The restaurant will have a permanent kitchen and will be able to use that money to hire new staff and open a new restaurant.
Dillon said Le Rondo will have to sell its restaurant to be eligible for the prize money.
She said she hopes the restaurant will be the first French gîne to win the prize.
“I think it’s very, very exciting.
I’m very happy,” Dickson said.
